Exocet Windsurfer LT

Exocet Windsurfer LT 2024

Quote Roger Turner

"So, I got a Windsurfer LT, board only, a couple of months ago. It has been summer, not normally great for windsurfing.

I also have the more familiar range of freeride and wave gear and some freeride foiling stuff too, all up to date and excellent. The thing is my ‘short board’ gear needs a solid 15 knots to start to work. This planing threshold is a big deal and for me at least, a source of frustration. So many days when the wind yo-yos from 10-20 knots to tempt the hopeful, or 5-15 knots but lovely warm summer weather. I hate wobbling about, struggling to get upwind and generally call it a day pretty quick.

It’s true that windsurf and wing-foiling are fun from around 10 knots and especially the latter has really taken off (pun intended).

So enter the Windsurfer LT, a ‘retro design’, brought up to date in 2018 and distributed all over the world, all identical except for a little bit of branding. "

"Not very exciting looking, not the fastest in light, medium or strong winds. BUT is high performance a prerequisite for fun… it turns out for me at least it isn’t.

The LT has lived on my van’s roof rack since I got it except for the dozen or so lengthy session in and around Poole. It has toured Poole Harbour, seen seals, gone round Brownsea Island, been to Old Harry, explored and surfed at Kimmeridge, blasted at Branksome and Sandbanks and nearly got round Hayling Island. It’s going out tomorrow in the 10-12 knot forecast, don’t care if it drops to 6 knots or increases to 20. (if its less than 5 knots I can always paddle board on it anyway). "

Even planning to take it to Kerry next week for the lighter wind days and to explore the islands. In short I really like it, why?

•    Versatility

•    Simplicity

•    Manoeuvrability

•    Upwind ability

•    Downwind stability

"This is all before you even consider the LTs main attraction for many, one design racing. As I write this the Wold Championships is on in Spain with 300 entrants. They will all use the same boards and sails. I have now picked up the rig too because I quite fancy some racing and hopefully we can build the UK fleet to a sensible level. The rig looks old fashioned, but it works fine, very different to a modern rig.. "

Maybe I will have a go at next years Worlds in Sardinia..

Give a Windsurfer LT a try, you might get hooked, like me!
